UNIPSIL’S CHIEF OF THE DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTION SECTION MET WITH CSO PARTNERS IN BO AND KENEMA

3 November 2009 - UNIPSIL seeks to broaden co-operation networks with Sierra Leonean partners based in the districts in the area of democratic institutions. To familiarize himself with the situation and the way forward for democratic institutions, Mr. Frederick Mallya, UNIPSIL's Chief of the Democratic Institution Section and his team visited Bo and Kenema from 3rd to 5th November 2009.

The objective of the visit was to identify and establish contact with democratic institutions and CSOs in the regions, establish regional contacts for co-operation and research on best practices and way forward for democratic institutions in the regions.

In Kenema, the team met the following persons, organizations, institutions and groups: the Paramount Chief, the Nongowa Chief, the Civil Society Movement, the Senior Election Officer of the Eastern Region, the Deputy Provincial Secretary, East, the District Chairperson of the Kenema District Council, the Chief Administrator and the Kenema District Council, as well as representatives from UNICEF, UNCDF and Human Rights Officers.

In Bo, the team met the PPRC Regional Officer South, the Chief Administrator, the Deputy District Council Chairperson of Bo district Council and UN Office counterparts.
