"Embrace Diversity, End Discrimination" - International Day of Human Rights

The Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL) and the UN Family commemorate the International Day of Human Rights with a one week long celebration starting on 2 December 2009. The Human Rights Commission plans country-wide activities including a symposium, drama competetions at schools and cultural and sports events. This year's international theme for the observance of the Human Rights Day on 10 December is: "Embrace Diversity, End Discrimination".

In collaboration with the UN family in Sierra Leone, civil society and other interested, the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL) has planned a series of activities for promoting and protecting Human Rights. The one week long celebrations in Sierra Leone will commence on 2 December 2009. The Commission particulalry aims at achieving more visibility of its work in the country, as well as initiating more reflection and debate about discrimination and diversity with particular reference to issues of cultural, racial and ethnic discrimination and diversity. The Sierra Leone Human Rights Commission to this end localized the international Human Rights Day them to: "We All Nar Wan" to reach far out to the Sierra Leonean people raising their awareness.

The activities for the Human Rights week celebrations in Sierra Leone include community sensitzation, the launching of a War Victims Fund, drama competetion at Elemantary Schools, speaking competitions, cultural and sports events, a symposium and the official celebrations to mark the International Day of Human Rights on 10 December in Freetown and in the districts.
